Glass's predicts VED related RV fall

Date: 03 April 2008   |   Author: Tom Webster

RV expert Glass's has reaffirmed there will be a marked effect in used car values for cars currently in VED band F, which will jump to band L or M in the new system due in 2010.

Vehicles registered between 1 March 2001 and 23 March 2006 that emit over 226g/km CO2 will see a 98% increase in their VED bill from £210 to £415.

However, a fall in used prices is only likely once buyers have fully grasped the complex new legislation.

"Such a sharp rise in VED could well have implications for the used car market in the coming months and years," according to Adrian Rushmore, managing editor at Glass's, "but much will depend on customers' understanding of the changes."
