Honda hopeful on auto diesel Accord

Date: 24 October 2008

Honda is hoping its new Accord diesel auto, coming early next year, will "open up a new market" for the brand.

The self-shifting gearbox is the first Honda has ever mated to a diesel engine, and fleet boss Graham Avent is hoping the automatic will take around a 35% share of Accord fleet sales when it's launched with a premium of around £1000 over the manual.

There's no word yet on the economy or emissions impact of the automatic over the manual gearbox, with the figures set to be finalised by the end of October.
