Hyundai develops CO2-beating auto

Date: 24 December 2008

Hyundai i30

Hyundai will introduce a new six-speed automatic in 2009 that will improve fuel efficiency and emissions by more than 12% over the five-speed unit it replaces.

The new gearbox will debut on the Hyundai Grandeur due out in 2009.

A Hyundai spokesman added: "A total of sixteen different Hyundai models will get this transmission including a redesigned Santa Fe, which is due to arrive in late in 2009."

BusinessCar's sources have said the new auto will also go into the i30.
