Hyundai showed off three near production ready eco cars under the i-Blue banner at the Geneva motor show at the start of the month. The greenest of which is the 65g/km i10 i-Blue powered by a 95PS 800cc turbo engine running on CNG.
Due the UK market's reluctance to accept CNG, Hyundai is working on a petrol powered version of the car with an estimated CO2 output of 85g/km. Even at this level, it would be the lowest CO2 conventionally powered car.
The i-Blue car, based on the recently launched i10 city car, is expected to go on sale in two years.
Hyundai also unveiled a diesel powered i10 i-Blue and a diesel i30 i-Blue, however, these are not expected to be brought to the UK as taxation levels and the increased costs of the car means the firm does not believe there is a market for the cars.
All of Hyundai's i-Blue cars feature energy saving measures including improved aerodynamics, stop-start technology, weight saving and low rolling-resistance tyres.
The 800cc engine in the i10 i-Blue is also expected to be used in the upcoming i20 supermini.
