Hyundai reveals Paris line-up

Date: 18 September 2008

Hyundai i20

Hyundai's i20, the replacement for the Getz supermini, will be making its public debut at the motor show in Paris in October.

The Korean manufacturer will also be revealing the concept versions of the Santa Fe hybrid and the low-CO2 i20 - the i20 i-blue.

The i20 shares stylistic features with its range siblings, the i10 and i30, incorporating distinctive tear-shaped headlights and a chrome strip over the radiator grille.

It is based on a longer wheelbase than the outgoing Getz, and claims to be larger inside. Emissions statistics will be revealed when the car makes its debut in Paris.

As with the other cars in the 'i' range, the five-door i20 promises to offer a large amount of kit as standard.

The i-blue concept claims to offer emissions of just 99g/km and promises 68mpg, achieved in part by lowering the standard i20 by 15mm, adding low-rolling resistance tyres and reducing wind resistance.

It is expected that the production version of the i-blue will go on sale six months after the launch of the i20.

Hyundai has also installed a petrol-electric hybrid engine into a Santa Fe 4x4. Hyundai claims the concept will be capable of 44mpg while emitting just 148g/km.

The car remains much the same on the outside, with the real changes taking place under the bonnet.

It is not yet confirmed whether the Santa Fe hybrid will make production as the company has discovered it offers little economic benefit over a diesel.

Hyundai is also considering putting an LPG petrol hybrid into the Santa Fe, but this technology is only at the early stages of development.
