Mercedes' sporty new CLC 1-series rival revealed

Date: 28 January 2008

Mercedes has taken the wraps off its replacement for the unloved C-class Sports Coupe with a new model called the CLC.

With the new three-door CLC, Mercedes has worked hard to distance the car from the C-class on which it shares much of its componentry. The CLC carries its own styling front and rear, with Mercedes claiming it is styled with the C-class, CL and S-class in mind.

Mercedes claims to have improved the sports character of the car with better steering, large alloy wheels, sports suspension and sports seats.

Prices and exact trim levels will be revealed nearer the car's on-sale date in June 2008.

Power will come from a choice of six engines ranging from 122PS to 272PS.
