New Ford Ka gains diesel power

Date: 12 September 2008

Ford's long-awaited replacement for its Ka supermini will come with a diesel engine for the first time.

The new Ka will make its world debut at the motor show in Paris, 12 years after the original made its bow at the same venue.

Ford claims both the diesel and the petrol Kas will emit under 120g/km CO2. Ford claims the 1.2-litre petrol's fuel consumption is 21% better than the old 1.3-litre petrol, at about 55mpg. The 75PS 1.3-litre diesel is said to be capable of 67.2mpg.

The styling brings the Ka in line with the updates to the rest of the Ford range, giving it a chunkier, more robust appearance. It still bears resemblance to the outgoing model however - the brand claims it retains "the youthful and cheeky spirit which made the original Ka so popular".

Four trim levels will be available: Studio, Style, Style+ and Zetec. Bluetooth connection, a USB port, steering-wheel stereo controls and heated seats are all available as options.
