Nice predicts electric vehicle take-off

Date: 18 August 2008   |   Author: Tom Webster

Electric vehicle importer Nice has predicted that the market for the cars it specialises in will continue to expand.

"We foresee that cars will go electric before a lot of other technology," said Nice's co-founder Evert Geurtsen.

Guertsen predicts the mass take-up of electric vehicles is just around the corner.

"The production numbers for each of our vehicles will be in the hundreds over the next 12 months," he continued. "But we are close to the point where will take off.

"The manufacturers have the ability to build thousands."

Fleets are expected to play a part in this, with 50% of sales going to business. The expected increase in sales is expected to continue with this 50/50 split.

The number of charging points in the capital is likely to continue rising. Guertsen said he expected there to be "about 450 charging points in London in a year's time".

This includes the 150 new points recently announced by London mayor Boris Johnson.
