Porsche sticks with hybrid

Date: 07 March 2008

Porsche Cayenne

Porsche has denied that it has plans to launch a diesel engine in its large off-roader, the Cayenne, saying instead that it is committed to hybrid technology.

"I don't have a clue where the story has come from," said a spokesman for Porsche when asked about rumours that a diesel alternative will be available as of next year.

However, it has been further confirmed that the company is "investigating all possibilities" for lowering its CO2 output and is investing "millions" into a hybrid, which should be on sale before the end of the decade.

The hybrid will be available in the Cayenne and the upcoming Panamera, a rival to the Bentley Continental Flying Spur.
