Renault to offer 'CO2 champion' Lagunas

Renault will attempt to regain ground on the fleet front with the Laguna next year when it offers diesel "CO2 champions" with lower emission diesel engines.
James Mitchell, Laguna brand manager, revealed that "reworked" 2.0-litre, 175PS and 150PS power units will produce respective CO2 ratings of 159g/km and "around 150g/km" for the second or third quarters of next year.
Meanwhile, the Laguna coupe, due for an October sales release, will have its business car appeal broadened with the current150PS diesel engine, described by fleet director Keith Hawes as "something of a sheep in wolf's clothing but a highly competitive fleet proposition".
Lower powered Laguna coupe versions will not benefit from the four-wheel-steering active chassis system on the 240PS V6 petrol and 230PS V6 diesel counterparts.
Mitchell said: "It is critical to find the absolutely right price point for the coupe so we don't over or under sell the car. It is creating a niche player and we don't want to repeat Peugeot's experience of reducing the 407's price."
Renault plans to sell around 20,000 Laguna Coupes in its first 12-month period.
