Roads wreck cars, says RAC

Date: 19 August 2008

RAC

Deteriorating road quality is causing damage to more cars, according to a survey of RAC patrol drivers.

More than half of the 620 drivers believe road quality is having a negative effect on drivers' journeys and on the state of their cars.

Approximately 230,000 RAC call-outs were for punctures in 2007, up from 204,000 in the previous year.

More than 55% of patrol drivers also saw an increase in suspension problems, while 31% saw more call-outs for underbody damage.

Despite this, 80% believe roadworks have increased, suggesting the road improvement isn't doing the required job.
