Seat Exeo to take on upper medium sector

Date: 08 August 2008

Seat's new upper medium competitor will be targeted at user-chooser buyers that "don't want to go for a Mondeo or Vectra", according to UK boss Peter Wyhinny.

The Exeo will be revealed at the Paris motor show this October ahead of the UK launch next year. "The strategy is to broaden our footprint, and the pedigree of Exeo is unique with it being based on the last Audi A4 platform," said Wyhinny.

However, Wyhinny described the Exeo's relevance to the firm as "important but not life-dependent", predicting sales of 3000-4000 units. By comparison, Seat will sell around 13,500 Leons this year.

The saloon will be closely followed by an estate variant, with Seat focussing on the Mazda 6 as a key rival.
