September rebirth for Volkswagen Scirocco

Date: 04 March 2008   |   Author:

VW has resurrected the Scirocco nameplate for a new small coupe due in the UK this September.

Priced from around £20,000, it will be initially offered with a 2.0-litre 200PS turbocharged engine, which will be joined by diesel and smaller capacity petrol TSI engines at the end of 2008.

The Scirocco is a four-seater, with four individual sports seats as standard, and the 292-litre boot extends to 755 litres with the rear seats folded.

Standard kit will include ESP anti-skid control, six airbags and an adaptive chassis control allowing drivers to switch between comfort, normal and sport settings.

The Scirocco was previewed by the 2006 Iroc concept car that wore more striking front-end styling than the sober production version, though the proportions and other styling treatments are carried over in the main.

VW sold the Scirocco in the UK from 1974-1993.

As well as the Scirocco VW's Geneva motor show stand will feature a Golf diesel hybrid concept and a low-CO2 Bluemotion version of the Sharan MPV.
