Smaller Jaguar XF diesel at least 18 months away

Jaguar is considering slotting a smaller, fleet-friendly diesel into the new Jaguar XF, but not for the foreseeable future.
"It's something we need and we won't fully penetrate the corporate market without a smaller engine," Jaguar UK boss Geoff Cousins told BusinessCar. "But I don't think it will affect us for the first 18 months."
The sentiment is echoed by XF brand manager Jonathan Partridge, who said "the way the market is going, we'd have to look at it in the future".
The XF launches next month with one diesel option - the 204PS 2.7-litre.
Cousins is bullish about its fleet chances, despite a higher P11D than rivals. "I've got to get people to look at the spec and the RVs," he said. Every XF comes with standard satnav, auto gearbox, leather interior and Bluetooth. According to Partridge, to spec a rival BMW to that level would make it 2-3% more expensive.
"There is a rational argument for buying this car," said Cousins. "Glass's and Cap are putting RVs at over 50%."
