Static sales for Volvo S80 despite new smaller diesel

Date: 25 February 2008

Volvo isn't predicting a big rise in sales of its S80, despite the introduction of a new 2.0-litre diesel offering businesses a tax-friendly version of the big saloon.

The 136PS unit was launched at the turn of the year and is expected to account for up to half of S80 corporate sales in 2008, though that is likely to be countered by a drop-off in the bigger engines.

The new engine means the S80 diesel range now kicks off at £23,995.

Volvo is also promising further developments of its eco-friendly Efficiency brand later this year. At last year's Frankfurt motor show, the firm revealed a C30 plug-in electric car concept, as well as an Efficiency C30 model capable of dropping below 120g/km of CO2.
