Think City

Think will be aggressively targeting business uses when its City electric car goes on sale at the end of the year.

Trials involving up to 80 of the hi-tech two-seater will be opened to fleets "mutually aligned to the brand", according to UK sales and marketing director Don Cochrane.

"We've been looking for fleets with a clear CSR (corporate and social responsibility) mandate," he said. "Our key customers would be a large fleet with visible vehicles, wanting to cut carbon and encourage their staff to think green."

The company is currently in talks with a dealer group to sell cars both in London and cities across the UK.

The high price of £14,000 plus £100 a month battery lease will be softened for fleets by the 100% tax writedown on the first business year. "We reckon that'll save 30% of the ex-VAT purchase price, which is going to help us with fleet sales," says Cochrane. Company car tax for battery cars remains at 9%.

The Think belonged to Ford until a cash crisis forced it to sell before, this, the all-new car could be launched. Now, six years later, fresh capital has finally brought it to market.
