Toyota reveals supermini off-roader

Date: 18 March 2008

Several car makers at this month's Geneva motor show were claiming to have a Nissan Qashqai for the supermini segment, but Toyota has probably come closest with the Urban Cruiser.

Available in both 4x4 and front-drive formats, the Urban Cruiser is designed to look like a shrunken off-roader but have the driving character of a small hatchback.

Toyota's Urban Cruiser will offer business user-choosers a low-cost entry to the off-roader market sector and is expected to go on sale in early 2009.

The engine line-up is yet to be confirmed but expect sub-140g/km emissions.
