Trio of new Mazda diesels starts with the 6

Date: 27 November 2008

Mazda has launched a new family of diesel engines that will be slotted into the upper medium 6 model before finding their way into the new 3 coming next April and then the CX-7 off-roader late next year.

The three variations of the 2.2-litre unit offer 125, 163 and 185PS power levels and all three will appear in the 6, although it's yet to be confirmed which versions will come into the lower medium 3 and the CX-7.

The low- and mid-power versions emit 147g/km in the hatchback, with an extra 2g/km from the high-power 185PS. Mazda is developing an auto transmission for the new engines, but it won't be available until 2011.
