Van CO2 figures published for the first time

Date: 03 December 2008

The BVRLA has made CO2 emission figures for vans and LCVs available for the first time.

The figures come from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority as van manufacturers are not due to release official figures in the UK until spring 2009.

The figures display the vehicle's CO2 emissions, weight and fuel consumption, shown in both metric and imperial. However, figures are not available for all vans on sale in the UK.

The BVRLA claims that vans account for 11.5% of the UK's CO2 emissions, with 320,000 rented or leased by the organisation's members. Jay Parmar, the BVRLA's head of legal services said: "Our members tell us that fuel consumption and emissions have rapidly emerged as two of the top criteria when operators come to choose a van."
