Vauxhall delays launch of Vectra replacement

Vauxhall's key new Insignia fleet contender's sales introduction has been delayed by "at least one month" until November as part of a European-wide campaign to build up dealer stocks.

Alain Visser, GM Europe's chief marketing officer, said in Detroit that July's London motor show unveiling of the hatchback and saloon versions of the Vectra replacement was "going to plan" with a "stunning" estate car following within three months.

The estate, which Visser said "might have fewer litres of space than its functional predecessor" will debut at September's Paris motor show.

Visser added: "We had anticipated an October sales release but the Insignia will start selling in November to make sure we have enough stock with the right cars in the right markets. For the UK, with its fleet strength, that means hatchbacks."

Vauxhall has launched a major charm offensive with fleets. Visser said the Insignia would "not be thrown at daily rental fleets" but that Vauxhall wouldn't exclude "strategically valuable, high-visibility rental business".
