Volvo XC60 priced between BMW and Land Rover rivals

Date: 05 August 2008

Volvo's XC60 is available from £24,750 for the entry-level 2.4-litre diesel, to £34,495 for the 285PS 3.0-litre petrol SE Lux.

A second diesel, the 185PS D5, will also be available from £25,750 when sales start in December.

The XC60 undercuts its rival BMW X3's starting price of £29,715 by nearly £5000, but Land Rover's Freelander works out cheaper still at £21,325.

Both XC60 diesels will be available with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, and the option of a six-speed Geartronic automatic 'box. The petrol will only be available with the auto transmission.

CO2 emissions squeeze under 200g/km, with both diesels achieving 199g/km with the manual transmission. The auto box raises CO2 to 219g/km for the diesels, while the auto petrol throws out 284g/km.

Three equipment levels, S, SE and SE Lux are offered, with features such as 17-inch alloy wheels, climate control, cruise control and leather steering wheel.
