VW gives Touareg extra punch

Date: 26 March 2008

Volkswagen is turning its large off-roader, the Touareg, into a huge hot hatch.

By upgrading the 5.0-litre V10 diesel engine from 313Ps to 350PS, the Touareg is now capable of sprinting to 60 in just 6.7secs.

VW claims that "despite its extra punch the Touareg R50 has the same fuel economy and CO2 output as the standard V10 TDI".

However, as the figures are 22.4mpg and 333g/km, the Touareg is by no means efficient.

Distinctions from the standard car come from a roof spoiler, 21-inch alloys and 'R' logos. The limited number that will be available will be priced at £61,885.
