VW Scirocco: new details & pictures revealed

Date: 16 June 2008

Volkswagen has revealed further details about the new Scirocco, due to go on sale in the UK on 29 August.

VW will introduce the car initially with four engines - one diesel and three petrol - and all will be turbo-charged. An additional diesel will then be added to the line-up in 2009.

The range will kick-off with a petrol 122PS 1.4 TSI capable of 46.3mpg, rising through a 1.8 160PS TSI to the 200PS 2.0 TSI engine from the Golf GTI. The 200PS engine is capable of 36.7mpg.

The 140PS 2.0-litre diesel can return 52.3mpg on the combined cycle. A 170PS diesel will join the range next year.

The Sirocco will be available with an optional adaptive suspension with three settings: comfort, normal and sport.

Other options include the choice of a six- or seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox over the standard six-speed manual.

Although unconfirmed, a Scirocco with more than 200PS is expected to join the range later next year.
