All-new BMW 5-series GT: First pictures and details

BMW has revealed the production version of an all new model to sit between the 5-series saloon and estate called the 5-series Gran Turismo.

Previously revealed as a concept car at the start of the year, the BMW 5-series GT is claimed to have the interior luxuries of a 7-series with the practicality of a 5-series estate or X5 off-roader.
Key to the new model is a Skoda Superb-style boot which is able to open as a saloon or hatch.
The front of the new BMW 5-series concept follows the styling set by the latest generation 7-series.
BMW claims the incorporation of a hatchback design means boot space flexibility is increased, including a sliding rear seat bench, folding seats and a boot space ranging from 440 to 1700 litres, just 50 litres down on the X5.
The five metre long, BMW 5-series Gran Turismo is expected to reach production as an addition to the 5-series range and will be on sale as soon as October priced from £40,000.

The BMW 5-series Gran Turismo is available as either a four-seat Executive specification car for a luxurious, spacious feel or in a five-seat SE.
A BMW spokesman said: "The rear seats can be moved 100mm fore or aft to either increase boot space or provide greater legroom for rear seat passengers. With the rear seats moved forwards, the seat backs folded virtually flat and the parcel shelf removed and stowed beneath the luggage compartment floor, much bulkier items can then be transported."
He added: "All cars come as standard with Drive Dynamic Control, a feature first showcased on the BMW 7 Series, that allows the driver to fine tune the chassis configuration to suit their needs. Drivers will be able to specify Normal, Comfort, Sport and Sport+, with each setting changing the steering assistance, throttle response and gear change characteristics."
