Baby Range Rover priced from £32,000

Date: 19 August 2009   |   Author: Tristan Young

Land Rover's baby Range Rover, shown as the LRX concept at the start of last year, is expected to cost between £32,000 and £44,000 when it goes on sale next year.

While not revealing the exact pricing Anthony Bradbury, UK marketing director for Land Rover, said:

"LRX pricing is not going to overlap with Freelander."

Freelander pricing runs from £21,000 to £32,000 while the latest Range Rover Sport starts from £44,000, leaving a gap for the new baby Range Rover.

However the LRX will use the Freelander's platform as its base.

According to Land Rover engineers the Freelander platform is adaptable to different sizes of vehicle with differing levels of off-road capability with the Ford Kuga and Volvo XC60 being based on versions of the same underpinnings.

Bradbury said: "LRX will be the smallest, greenest Range Rover ever." And Land Rover engineers hinted the all-new model will launch with a sub-160g/km CO2 figure.
