BCA reports record-breaking January sales

Date: 20 February 2009

BCA

Auction firm BCA sold more used cars and vans in January 2009 than in any other previous January.

The firm also recorded a boost in the vehicle entry-to-sale ratio to 90% for the month. It reached a peak on Friday 30 Jan when BCA sold 92% of the cars offered, the highest for any month in the company's history.

The upswing in used vehicle values also continued for the third month in a row - sales averaged £300 more than December. The positive trend was spread across the country, with records reported in Bridgwater, Brighouse, Newcastle, Preston, Paddock Wood and Peterborough. Blackbushe sold every car entered on thirty separate occasions in the month, while Glasgow recorded its highest figures for two years.

"BCA's dealer customers are telling us that consumer footfall has increased significantly in the New Year and used cars are selling in greater numbers," said BCA's UK managing director Andrew Hulme. "The real test will be over the coming weeks and will depend on any sustained retail demand those dealers experience."
