BMW 7-series, but stretched a bit

Date: 28 January 2009

BMW has put the long-wheelbase version of its flagship 3.0-litre diesel 7-series on sale, with prices starting at £56,790.

The extended saloon offers 14cm more rear legroom than the standard car, and is £3060 more expensive, working out at £218.57 per cm.

730d long-wheelbase customers will only suffer an increase in emissions of 2g/km over the normal car, but a figure of 194g/km keeps them in the same 29% tax band. Economy is only compromised by 0.5mpg at 38.7.

BMW expects around 30-35% of its 7-series sales to be made up of the stretched 3.0-litre, with the majority of those going to the chauffeur market.

Sales are expected to total around 1600 a year.
