BMW emphasises broker ban

BMW has reaffirmed its determination to keep brokers out of selling its cars.

Tim Abbott, BMW UK managing director, addressing the firm's annual press dinner, praised his dealer network and added: "I must also commend them for not getting sucked back into the new car broker business, business that delivers a poor customer experience and an area that we have worked extremely hard over the past two years to keep away from."

Two years ago the firms stopped targeting its dealers on sales in a successful move to stem the large number of its cars being offered at discounts through brokers which was having a detrimental impact on residual values.

Under the plan almost all BMWs sold to the business market went directly through the car maker and leasing firms.
