Brighton leads electric charge

Date: 01 October 2009

Brighton is set to become the leading electric-car city outside of London following the announcement it is to install 20 road-side charging points over the next year.

The first 10 points will be in place by the end of this year, with the second 10 appearing in early 2010 according to installation company Elektromotive.

London is currently the only city in the UK that has charging points at the side of the road, with Elektromotive installing 90 by the end of 2009.

The 13amp stations will run a coiled yellow lead to the vehicle at waist height in order to reduce the danger of tripping over the cable. Only one car will be able to be charged from each station.
