BUDGET '09: Government could abolish diesel surcharge for Euro6 emissions laws

Date: 22 April 2009

Cars meeting the proposed Euro6 emissions regulations could finally lose the 3% diesel surcharge applied to their benefit-in-kind tax rate.

The 2009 Budget confirmed that the Government is "considering the case for abolishing the diesel supplement in company car tax for diesel cars with the future Euro6 emissions and air quality standards".

Euro6 isn't scheduled until 2014 at the moment but the move does appear to end any speculation that the surcharge could be removed before that.
