BVRLA letter reveals Budget 2009 wishlist

Date: 07 April 2009

The BVRLA has called for clarification of CO2 emissions thresholds in the Budget on 22 April.

It claims the variety of levels is confusing for companies and employees, giving the example of 'ultra clean cars' set at 100g/km for VED, 110g/km for corporation tax and 120g/km in BIK.

It also asked for a postponement of this year's VED band increase, a suspension of plans to increase fuel duty and changes to the business car tax reform on lease rental restriction.

The calls were made in a meeting with treasury minister Angela Eagle and a follow-up letter. The BVRLA also urged the Government not to neglect used vehicle sales in attempts to boost the new vehicle market through a much-vaunted scrappage scheme.

Meanwhile, Kevin McNally, Leaseplan's regional senior vice-president, northern Europe and Americas, is to take over from Nigel Stead as BVLRA chairman in May. McNally is currently vice-chair of the BVRLA.
