DETROIT SHOW: Honda Insight officially revealed

Date: 12 January 2009

Honda has confirmed the official fuel consumption and CO2 figures of the all-new Insight at the Detroit motor show reveal of the new hybrid car.

As revealed in a leaked document last week, the Honda Insight comes in at 101g/km and 64.2mpg.

With a starting price of around £15,000 the Insight is expected to undercut its chief rival the Toyota Prius by around £3000.

Commenting on the debut of the Insight, Ken Keir, managing director of Honda (UK) said: "Honda has been selling hybrids for almost a decade, but this is the first time that our technology has been available in a five-Seat, five door car at an affordable price. The Insight combines our award winning IMA hybrid system with an easy to use driver aid (Eco Assist) to help our customers maximise their real world fuel economy. By combining an electric motor with a highly efficient petrol engine, the Insight offers drivers not only low CO2 emissions, but also very low emissions of other greenhouse gasses like N2O."
