Engine and trim addition for Alfa 159

Date: 09 September 2009

Alfa Romeo has added two new engines and two new trim levels to its upper medium saloon, the 159.

The BMW 3-series rival now has a new 172PS 2.0-litre diesel engine, and a 203PS 1.8-litre petrol, while it adds two new mid-level trim packages.

The new diesel engine, which is a development of the old 1.9-litre diesel, means the 159 offers emissions of 142g/km and fuel economy of 52.3mpg. It is still capable of the 0-62mph dash in 8.8 seconds.

The petrol is quicker, getting to 62mph in 7.7 seconds, but only brings emissions down to 189g/km.

The two new trim levels will be known as Turismo Sport and Elegante. Turismo Sport offers such kit as Bluetooth, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a leather steering wheel, while Elegante brings parking sensors, auto wipers and steel kick plates.
