Citroen has revealed its C3 supermini ahead of a UK arrival early next year.

The new model will be the first Citroen to get below 100g/km for CO2 emissions, with the 90PS diesel engine coming in at 99g/km. The French firm is also promising new engines in 2011 that will get a diesel to 90g/km and a petrol version under 100g/km thanks to improvements including the addition of stop-start technology.

Citroen claims the new model boasts "contemporary lines and seductive styling, compact exterior dimensions - cleverly matched to interior space - good environmental credentials and a refined high-quality interior."

The car's major innovation is an extended windscreen that eats into where there would normally be metal roof for a panoramic sunroof effect. The new car doesn't grow substantially over its predecessor, and still comes in below the four-metre mark. That's 80mm longer than the current C3 but still 10mm shorter than a Ford Fiesta and 59mm shorter than a Vauxhall Corsa. Despite that, the 300-litre boot is slightly better than either of the biggest-selling models in the sector.
