FRANKFURT SHOW: Superb boot space for new Skoda estate

Date: 16 September 2009

Skoda used the Frankfurt motor show to reveal its new Superb estate. The new model has an enormous 633 litre boot, which dwarfs the likes of Volvo's V70, the BMW 5-series and Ford Mondeo, the latter being the only one that can be called any kind of a rival on pricing terms alone.

With the rear seats dropped, the Superb estate goes out to 1865 litres of luggage space, compared with a V70's 1600. Only the forthcoming Mercedes E-class estate will beat it.

The new version of the Superb contains a couple of firsts for Skoda. It is the first car in the brand's history to offer a keyless access and ignition system, and is also the first Skoda to have an electronic tailgate as an option. The electronic system also moves the luggage cover halfway back to ease access.

The range of three petrol and two diesel engines is the same as the existing Superb hatchback, and the new model is expected in the UK in the first quarter of 2010.
