FRANKFURT SHOW: VW Polo goes three-door

Date: 07 September 2009

Volkswagen has shown the three-door version of the latest Polo before it takes the stand at the Frankfurt motor show.

The supermini boasts the same dimensions as its five-door equivalent and enjoys the same leap in size over the outgoing model.

It will share the same four trim levels as the five-door as well, with the entry-level S expected to cost around £9400, while the top-spec SEL will set buyers back around £14,000.

Six engines are on offer at launch - two diesel and four petrol. The two diesels are both 1.6-litres with 75 and 90PS, while petrol is available from two 1.2-litres with 60 and 70PS, an 85PS 1.4-litre and a turbocharged 105PS 1.2-litre engine.

The three-door Polo will make its way to the first customers early next year.
