GENEVA SHOW: 1, 2, 3. Kia launches supermini-MPV

Date: 06 March 2009   |   Author: Tristan Young

The Geneva motor show saw Kia reveal a supermini-based MPV under the 'No.3' badge.

"The Rio will continue as the value proposition and the No.3 will sit between the Rio and the Ceed," said Philpott. However, he added the name was likely to change by the time the car goes on sale in the UK next year. In size terms, the new model slots into the range below Kia's other new supermini-MPV, the Soul, which recently went on sale in the UK.

Also announced at the Geneva show was stop-start technology, called ISG, and a hybrid car for the Korean brand.

Commenting on this announcement Philpott added: "ISG will arrive later this year on the Ceed and give a 15% saving on fuel and CO2. The hybrid should arrive in the UK in 18 months, maybe two years. In Korea it's based on the Rio, so it's likely to be the on the next Rio for us and possibly the Ceed too."
