GENEVA SHOW: Infiniti unveils Essence hybrid supercar

Date: 12 March 2009

Luxury brand Infiniti unveiled a hybrid supercar at the recent Geneva motor show.

Called Essence, the sleek concept isn't scheduled for production. However, the interesting bit is the electric motor, mated to a 3.7-litre petrol engine. In the concept it produces 600PS and 190g/km, although that would probably be reined in for production.

The system will be launched next year in America, with the large 4x4 FX a likely first recipient.

There's no word yet on a UK launch, as Infiniti's priority for Europe is a new 3.0-litre diesel coming in 2010.

There are currently no brands in Europe that offer hybrid and diesel models side-by-side in their range.
