GENEVA SHOW: Nissan concept hints at baby Qashqai

Date: 04 March 2009

Nissan has shown off a concept that strongly hints towards the design of a baby Qashqai that's due to be built at the company's Sunderland factory.

The Qazana is essentially a supermini, but adds 4x4 looks and technology to create a new niche for the Japanese manufacturer. The concept features a rear kickplate, large wheels and all-wheel-drive technology, but is said to be aimed at the urban environment.

Many of the styling cues will make it over to the production version of the car, which is due to go on sale next year and which is thought will retain the Qazana name.

The boomerang-shaped rear lights are similar to ones already used by Nissan on their other 4x4s, the Murano and the Qashqai. Elements such as the rear-hinged back doors and super-sized wheels are not likely to make it to the final version though.
