Honda revises CR-V 4x4

Honda has facelifted its CR-V small off-roader, giving the model new front and rear bumpers and a new diesel engine, including the option of a diesel with an automatic gearbox for the first time.

The diesel CR-V has been given a 10PS power upgrade with the i-DTEC unit from the Accord replacing the previous version, though emissions drop just 2g/km and are still well above the Capital Allowance threshold at 171g/km for the manual. That compares with the revised Toyota Rav4's 154g/km. The Japanese rival also has the advantage in economy terms, claiming a 48.7mpg average against the Honda's 43.5. The automatic CR-V is an eye-watering 195g/km, more even that the petrol automatic's 193.

Prices start at £20,175 for the 150PS 2.0-litre petrol SE, with the equally powerful diesel an extra £2000 across the range. That will give company drivers that are allowed to pick 4x4s over 160g/km an interesting dilemma as the petrol is likely to work out cheaper, given it's only one BIK band higher than the diesel, and £2000 will buy a lot of fuel, even at 34.4mpg against the diesel's 43.5 average.

First deliveries will take place in January.
