Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport get makeover

Date: 08 April 2009

Land Rover has substantially updated the Discovery, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport to bring a host of new technologies to the 4x4 brand.

Appealing to business car manager and drivers, Land Rover will fit the new 245PS 3.0-litre diesel, first seen in sister firm Jaguar's XF, to the revised Discovery and Range Rover Sport, which go on sale in the UK in September.

The new 3.0 diesel replaces the previous 193PS 2.7-litre diesel in the Range Rover Sport, but will be offered as a range addition in the Discovery.

The automatic-only 3.0-litre diesel delivers fuel consumption and CO2 improvements against the auto version of the 2.7 diesel as well as a performance gain.

Land Rover's designers have reworked the faces of all three models.

The Discovery sheds its bluff front and gains a grille that brings it in-line with the Freelander and the Range Rovers.

The Range Rover Sport's styling has been tweaked to distance itself from the Range Rover and make it sportier.

And the Range Rover's front has been simplified, which the company hopes will increase the feeling of prestige.

The updates sees Land Rover join the growing number of car makers fitting LED running lights to make their vehicles stand out from their rivals.

Although pricing has yet to be set, UK managing director John Edwards said the updated models were likely to be slightly above the current models.
