New car sales slide again in January

Date: 05 February 2009

The new car market plunged again in January, with registrations dropping 30.9% compared with the first month of 2008.

The fleet market took 52.2% of sales, and diesel hit its second-highest ever January penetration at 53.7%.

Despite the hefty downturn, Jaguar and Hyundai increased sales on January 2008, while Ford led the overall market from Vauxhall, VW and Audi. The Fiesta was the biggest-selling new car, ahead of the Focus.
