New MD for Vauxhall

Date: 04 November 2009

Vauxhall's UK MD and chairman Bill Parfitt is set to retire on 1 January 2010 and will be replaced by Duncan Aldred.

Aldred, 38, is currently sales operations director for GM Europe and first joined GM in 1990.

Parfitt joined Vauxhall in 1998 as fleet director and in 2000 was promoted to sales director. He took over the chairmanship of GM UK and Ireland in 2007 and was also European fleet boss until earlier this year when Jonathan Akeroyd took over the role.

When Parfitt retires he will become non-executive chairman of Vauxhall.

The announcement comes on the same day that GM revealed it will no longer sell GM Europe, including Vauxhall, to Canadian car parts maker Magna.
