Peugeot placing fleet faith in 407 replacement

Date: 01 December 2009

Peugeot is promising a big stride forward with the replacement for its 407 Ford Mondeo rival, due to arrive within two years.

Despite slow sales of the current model, which was only ranked 64 among the top 100-selling business cars of 2008, Peugeot will maintain a presence in the upper medium sector once the 407 reaches the end of its life.

"It will be a good-looking car, fit for purpose, economical to run, with good RVs, and will be chosen because it is different to anything else," a Peugeot source told BusinessCar. "There is an opportunity to do one's volume aspirations. The 407 replacement is pretty important to us as a way of doing business in the future and raising the bar."

The 407 replacement is rumoured to be called 508 and would replace both the 407 and 607 models.

Also due in 2011 is Peugeot's first diesel-electric hybrid model, a four-wheel drive version of the recently launched 3008 model with a targeted 99g/km emissions figure.
