Politics Update: No roadwork backlog

Date: 11 August 2009

Theresa Villiers, Conservative shadow secretary of state for transport, asked transport minister Chris Mole what recent estimate he has made of the size of the backlog of road maintenance for strategic roads; and what his estimate is of the cost of clearing the backlog.

He said: "The condition of the strategic road network is monitored on a regular basis and an annual performance target is set in the Highways Agency Business Plan. This target has been met since it was introduced in 2004-05 in the Highways Agency's Business Plan."
