Saab joins the CO2-cutting class

Date: 27 February 2009

Saab 9-3

Saab has joined the legion of manufacturers offering CO2 emission reductions on its core fleet models.

A number of changes to the 150PS 1.9 9-3 diesel has seen the saloon drop from 157g/km to 137, bringing it down four benefit-in-kind bands. Fuel consumption goes from 48.7mpg to 53.3mpg.

The impressive 180PS TTiD diesel engine has also been worked over, coming down from 149 to 139g/km.

Engineering work covers a series of fine-tuning measures including tweaked gear ratios, remapping the engine system and fitting more efficient wheels and tyres. The developments come under Saab's Ecopower Technology banner.

The developments will be unveiled at next week's Geneva motor show, alongside the new 9-3X, a raised Audi A4 Allroad rival aimed at those people that need extra ground clearance but don't want to drive an off-roader.
