The start point for the best source of fleet information

Shock winners in 2009 ACFO awards

Date: 20 October 2009

Ford's Transit has been overhauled for the first time in 14 years, with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter being crowned top fleet panel van in the 2009 ACFO awards.

The fleet operator trade association also had its first ever tie in the member-voted prizes, with the light van sector shared between Ford's Transit Connect and the VW Caddy. The fleet car of the year award was less dramatic, with Volkswagen's Golf making it a hat-trick of successes.

ACFO conducted its poll of members online for the first time and claims record numbers of votes. "The fact that a total of 40 cars and 35 vans all scored at least one vote underlines the breadth of models that are applicable for business use and the importance of the fleet sector to a wide range of motor manufacturers," said ACFO chairman Julie Jenner. "Only a few years ago the awards were dominated by just a handful of manufacturers and a similar number of models, but that has changed significantly as all mainstream car and van makers look to get their vehicles onto fleet choice lists."
