The start point for the best source of fleet information

Total launches carbon offsetting fuel card

Date: 08 April 2009   |   Author: Rupert Saunders

Fuel company Total is to launch a new fuel card that will allow businesses to closely monitor their vehicle carbon footprint and, if they want to, pay for carbon offsets to compensate for net CO2 produced by their fleet.

In order to incentivise carbon offsetting, the fuel company will also contribute to the scheme.

The Total Card Green will launch on 23 April and is a response to demand from business car managers for better information about carbon emissions, according to Samuel Vermeersch, card development manager for Total UK.

"More and more companies are wanting to reduce their carbon footprint and this card will help them do that," said Vermeersch.

"The starting point is to be able to better model the emissions pattern and our web-based reporting system will provide reports of real, total emissions data.

"Then we can try to help business car managers achieve their emissions reduction plan."

Card users will also be encouraged to use advanced fuels such as Total Excellium, which, according to Vermeersch, give better fuel economy and reduced harmful emissions.

Total will subsidise the price of advanced fuels via the card.

The whole scheme will run online, with no paper use.
