The start point for the best source of fleet information

Toyota's all-wheel drive Urban Crusier beats all other 4x4s for CO2

Date: 26 March 2009

Toyota's Urban Cruiser will be the cleanest four-wheel drive car when it goes on sale in May, with emissions of just 130g/km for the 1.4-litre diesel version.

The small 4x4 also claims a consumption figure of 57.7mpg, while the two-wheel drive petrol version emits 129g/km of CO2 and has a fuel consumption of 51.4mpg.

Emissions are to be kept low on the petrol by Toyota's Optimal Drive system and stop-start technology.

Both the diesel and the petrol come with a long-ratio six-speed gearbox that also helps efficiency. However, Toyota confirmed it will not offer an ultra-low two-wheel drive option.

Prices are expected closer to the launch date.
