Trafficmaster lets managers talk to drivers

Date: 21 January 2009

Trafficmaster has launched a system that lets fleet managers communicate with their drivers through a message display service.

The Message Display Terminal has a series of pre-programmed messages relevant to on the road service industries that can be sent to and from the vehicle. The pre-programmed messages can also be customised, and there is also a mobile phone style keypad for drivers to send info back to base.

The system is web-based, so no extra software is required. It also records what the vehicle is doing at the time messages are sent and received to enable managers to see if drivers are communicating while on the move. By using Trafficmaster's online Fleet Director system, managers can send messages to all their drivers simultaneously.

Trafficmaster also offers satnav with the system, which can have a route put in from either the car or by the manager from their computer. The MDT system costs £425 plus fitting and VAT, and the navigation costs an additional £109 a year.

Meanwhile, Trafficmaster has also strengthened its relationship with Citroen, by taking a fleet of 20 cars and vans from the manufacturer. The vehicles will perform equipment demonstration duties and be used by the company's traffic sensor maintenance engineers. The fleet includes the C2 VTS 110PS 1.6HDI, C5s and Berlingo, Dispatch and Relay vans. The deal has been financed by a combination of contract hire and outright purchase.
